Save Canyon Springs Partner Update

Thank you to the 700+ donors whose unwavering support was instrumental in achieving the seemingly impossible task of protecting 290 acres at the Eastern edge of Truckee. Your contribution, along with the efforts of conservation stakeholders, has been a game-changer.

After thirty-four years of advocacy, the owners of Canyon Springs were finally willing to sell for $11.6 million. With your support, Truckee Donner Land Trust, Mountain Area Preservation, Save Open Space Around Glenshire, and The Martis Fund secured $12 million, making this long-awaited opportunity a reality. The additional dollars secured for the acquisition of Canyon Springs will be used for stewardship efforts by the Truckee Donner Land Trust, who is setting the stage for conservation and recreation planning for eastern Truckee.

Our groups are now seeking to engage our Save Canyon Springs Donors in creating our donor panel for the future Canyon Springs kiosk, where all donors' names will be listed and publicly thanked on the Canyon Springs site. Save Canyon Springs Donors: please be on the lookout for an email or call to confirm how you would like your name listed on the future Canyon Springs kiosk, which will be located at the confluence of several popular trails on the land.

In stewardship news, Truckee Donner Land Trust is working with the Truckee Fire Protection District to begin 136 acres of forest health work at Canyon Springs - part of a larger wildfire resiliency project across the eastern Truckee area. This project will reduce forest density to lower the risk of catastrophic wildfire, while improving habitat and supporting riparian health on the property.

The Land Trust continues to develop a plan for trails and roads on the property, as well as ways to reduce OHV trespass. This is an ongoing process, so stay tuned for future updates and opportunities on forestry, trails, and trailheads at Canyon Springs.
