Donations Doubled Until We Reach Our Goal!

Protecting Canyon Springs as open space and opening it to the public is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our community. In the last month since Truckee Donner Land Trust, Mountain Area Preservation, SOS Glenshire, and the Martis Fund announced our campaign, hundreds of you have voiced your support with generous donations. Thank you!

Since September 28th, the campaign has received $11.4 million in grants, conservation funds, large private gifts, and grassroots donations from the community at large! More than 450 donors have now made an investment to protect open space in Eastern Truckee. Large private donations from Daniel Haas and family, the Emigrant Trails Greenway Trust, and conservation supporters from all over the region have backed the campaign, bringing us closer to our land acquisition goal of $11.6 million!

All donations will be doubled by a very substantial match from Tony Fadell and Danielle Lambert, which will help us reach our goal by December 15th! Dollar for dollar, your investment is making a positive impact for present and future generations.

Help us secure community open space once and for all!

Your Friends and Neighbors Are Stepping Up

Community members are stepping up to support the permanent protection of open space in Eastern Truckee. We asked a few friends why they think this is an important piece of land to preserve, and here is what they had to say:

“Glenshire is one of the few neighborhoods in Truckee without access to extensive public dirt trails for hiking, dog walking, or mountain biking, so it has long been a dream that Canyon Springs be open to our community for preservation and recreational access. We are grateful for the efforts of the Truckee Donner Land Trust, Mountain Area Preservation, SOS Glenshire, and the Martis Fund for giving us this incredible opportunity.” – Allison Pedley, Truckee Trails Foundation.

“I was beyond thrilled when I heard that the Canyon Springs land acquisition was going forward. It is such an important, central, and vibrant area for the Truckee community to get outside, be healthy, and enjoy the open space. Preserving it for public use will provide a beautiful nearby outlet for people to explore daily. It also protects the natural setting and keeps it from being developed, which would deprive the community of much-needed open space and push the density/traffic in the community to unhealthy levels. Our family is looking forward to venturing through the space on a daily basis.” – Jack Macy, Glenshire Resident/Donner Party Mountain Runners.

“Acquisition of Canyon Springs for conservation is a critical piece in an ongoing 30-year effort to preserve and protect 12,000 acres stretching from Canyon Springs to Lake Tahoe. It is part of an especially critical deer migration corridor running from Verdi to Tahoe which faces being fractured unnecessarily by overdevelopment, sprawl, and poor planning. Canyon Springs is the linchpin and must be preserved as a conservation priority!” – Stefanie Olivieri, founding MAP board member and Truckee business owner.

Please join Allison, Jack, Stefanie, and hundreds of other donors in permanently protecting and opening Canyon Springs to the public for all to enjoy by donating today.

Conservationists are stepping up to support the permanent protection of open space in Eastern Truckee. Partners and regional resource agencies have worked many years and decades with the hopes of Canyon Springs being protected one day as permanent open space and here is what they had to say:

“The Canyon Springs property has long been a summer destination for migratory mule deer in the Loyalton-Truckee Deer Herd. Continued residential and commercial development in this area has reduced the fawning and foraging habitat for these deer and impeded connectivity as deer navigate roads, backyards, and other barriers. Preserving it as open space will provide a safe place for deer and other wildlife.” - Sara Holm, Wildlife Biologist, California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

“SOS Glenshire has worked as a grassroots organization for many years to preserve this land. We now have the opportunity to replace irresponsible development and sprawl with the protection of wildlife corridors, mitigation of wildfire and evacuations risks, and create open space for the entire Truckee community to enjoy.” - Kathy Echols, SOS Glenshire Board Member.

"Protecting Canyon Springs is such an important opportunity for both our community and for the region, preventing sprawl and preserving open space for wildlife and for recreation." – Aparna Reddy, Truckee Donner Land Trust Board President.

"As a 9-year Martis Fund board member, I am honored to be part of such an important land acquisition. The Martis Fund is charged with supporting efforts in the region that protect our precious resources. Conserving Canyon Springs will be a catalyst for large landscape preservation and connectivity to the Martis Valley, Mount Rose Wilderness, and Lake Tahoe Basin." – Nikki Riley, Martis Fund Board Member.
