The TRPA is undertaking a multi-year process called Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin, to address housing needs in the Tahoe Basin. MAP is working to advocate for socially & Environmentally Sound Housing to serve our workforce, seniors, low-income, and disabled populations.
We have diverse needs in Tahoe, and MAP is serving as an environmental representative in the process. MAP is also working to ensure that our Settlement from the Phase 2 Housing Amendments Legal Challenge is honored in the process and in the outcome.
The TRPA Governing Board will review the draft policy recommendations for Cultivating Community and Conserving the Basin on 11.19.2025. There are roughly 11 policy categories up for consideration, and the staff report includes tables that present and introduce the policy concept, Tahoe Living Working Group and Community Partner feedback, and community input from workshops and sessions over the last year.
Governing Board members will discuss and prioritize which policy ideas to advance for the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The final housing policies to be evaluated in the EIS will be decided at the January 28, 2026, TRPA Governing Board meeting, allowing the initiation of the EIS and the public process to follow.
Read MAPβs comment letter to the Governing Board HERE. Help MAP Advocate for programs to unlock units, and say NO to allowing Phase 2 amendments for market-rate housing. Letβs stay focused on advancing housing through an equitable process for the workforce, seniors, low-income, and disabled individuals.
TRPA Housing Workshops | July 22nd and 23rd
Two important opportunities for public input on Tahoe housing are coming up next week! Join the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) on Tuesday, July 22nd, at the Bijou Community School in South Lake Tahoe or Wednesday, July 23rd, at the Tahoe Community Foundation (formerly known as the Parasol Building) in North Lake Tahoe. Both meetings will take place from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, with dinner provided, along with Spanish interpretation, and kid-friendly activities.
Why Attend the Workshops? The TRPA is undertaking a multi-year process called Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin, to address housing needs in the Tahoe Basin. These workshops are your chance to weigh in on critical housing issues, such as: Where should housing be built? How much? And, who should the housing be built for?
Take a look at MAPβs recent comment letter if you want to get our take on some of the concepts. Ultimately, this process will shape Tahoe's look, feel, and function for generations to come, so be sure to attend! MAP will be at the North Lake Tahoe workshop, and we hope to see you there!
