Melinda Maxfield

Board Director

Melinda has been a local since 1994, when she replaced the beaches of Maui for the mountains of Tahoe. Her husband, Dave Hatchett, introduced her to the wonders of the Tahoe backcountry and she joined his snowboarding film crew for many years.  After having two daughters, she served on a variety of parent boards, including the Tahoe Community Nursery School, the Mother’s Club, the Lake Tahoe School, and the Lake Tahoe School Library Committee. She also started an infant/toddler product company called Gogo Babyz.

More recently, Melinda sat on the Amazon Conservation Team board, which partners with indigenous communities to protect tropical forests and strengthen traditional culture.  Seeing cultural devastation in the Amazon from rampant development, she notices that Lake Tahoe’s mountain-town culture and character are in danger.  One of the many reasons she joined MAP is to ensure the integrity of the Tahoe way-of-life continues.

For the last seven years, Melinda has delved deeper into her interest in Herbalism and can be found foraging for native medicinal plants to make herbal remedies.  Loving all that Lake Tahoe has to offer, she spends her off-time hiking, mountain biking, and gardening in the summer, and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and snowboarding in the winter.
