Preserve Mountain Character

What, where, and how we build will affect Truckee-Tahoe residents and visitors for generations to come. Land use and development decisions touch our lives in so many ways. MAP’s advocacy work has helped to preserve our small town mountain character by participating in planning efforts to ensure our neighborhoods, schools, transit, parks, open space and natural resources are accessible and protected.

We believe that communities must create a balance between accommodating new growth and protecting the mountains, lakes and streams that enrich our lives and sustain our tourism economy. By embracing smart growth principles, MAP seeks to assure that new growth avoids critical environmental areas, protects water, wildlife and air quality and recycles disturbed lands with in-fill development to avoid sprawl. Our Staff, Board and Members participate in regional planning efforts to advocate for conservation and sound land use planning in an effort to preserve our mountain character.
