LAND USE EDUCATION & OUTREACH

Mountain Area Preservation feels that education and community outreach are critically important to ensuring good decisions are made during the land use planning process. We are working to increase land use literacy for Truckee-Tahoe residents, visitors and students.

LEARN ABOUT LAND USE

MAP has seen firsthand that lack of knowledge and understanding around land use issues has negatively impacted environmental decision making in Truckee-Tahoe. Here, we provide resources for self-education on environmental and land use topics.

TROUT CREEK POCKET PARK

The Trout Creek Pocket Park was built as an outdoor classroom, allowing students to engage in place-based education. We have expanded our Land Use Literacy program to teach local elementary students about important land use in the park’s unique setting.

TRUCKEE 2040 OUTREACH

The General Plan Update Process is one of the best opportunities to get involved with land use decision making in the community and influence the future of Truckee. MAP is working to make sure all communities have the opportunities to effectively participate.

OUTREACH EVENTS

MAP staff, board and volunteers work hard each year to get the word out about timely land use issues and inform the public about our ongoing campaigns. This outreach allows us to educate the public about issues that impact them and how they can get involved.
