RAILYARD MASTER PLAN

MAP has been a strong supporter of the Railyard Master Plan since its inception, more than twenty years ago. The Railyard, also known as the old Truckee Lumber Mill, is a brownfield, infill site adjacent to Historic Downtown Truckee that has the ability to create a vibrant extension to downtown, by developing community-supported land uses for workforce housing, a theater, a boutique grocery store, cultural heritage district, lodging, transit opportunities, and Truckee funk architecture. The Railyard Master Plan was originally approved in 2009 and was again updated in 2016. The first project moving forward at the Railyard is the Artist Lofts, a 77 unit affordable housing development for low-income residents in the Truckee-Tahoe region. Learn more about the Truckee Railyard and Artist Lofts. MAP has been a supportive stakeholder reviewing plan, environmental documents, applications, and advocating for community needs through the public process.

Tahoe Basin Regional Plan

In 2012, MAP participated in the Tahoe Regional Plan Update, as a land use advocate for the Truckee-North Lake Tahoe area. Growth pressures, loss of open space, degradation to resources, such as Lake Tahoe, and the lack of support for community needs were some of the primary reasons MAP participated in the Regional Plan Update for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and Placer County. MAP continues to track development applications in the Tahoe Basin Area Plan, in an effort to encourage development in town centers, limit sprawl, address regional land use issues, and mitigate environmental threats.
